Imagine expressing the perfect technique: Subtle, fast, precise... beautiful.
It can only be performed with great control, complete freedom and an unhindered connection to the weapon.
Now imagine a glove that allows you to perform that technique while offering you the best possible protection against a steel sword.
We are CrossGuard, a passionate team of HEMA practitioners and design engineers, dedicated to making this a reality: protection without compromise.
1. Why aren’t there any dates on the timeline?
Everything about the ProGauntlet is designed and built from scratch. We are even developing the production method in-house, making use of the latest technologies. As such, we are in uncharted territory and cannot make time accurate predictions about the development. So we'd rather stick with what we know. This is why we communicate our progress in milestones, not by time. Rest assured we are moving forward as fast as we can.
2. When will the glove be finished?
In order to meet the high standards we have set, we need to go through a rigorous testing and validation phase. Currently there are still a number of essential design challenges to be met. Once we have completed a full model that works to our satisfaction, we will release two consecutive Beta series*. This will allow us to perfect the design with valuable feedback from the community. Beta testing is scheduled for this year.
In the meantime, we're developing our production design and capacity in order to release the ProGauntlet Mark 1 in 2017. So, sometime next year, they will be ready for shipping.
3. When will I be able to pre-order?
We don't expect to open pre-orders for the ProGauntlet Mark 1 before 2017. This has to do with the aforementioned Beta testing: pre-orders cannot start until we can guarantee a top class product. Of course we will keep you posted on this website.
4. I heard something about a Beta test. Where can I subscribe?
Once we are ready to release our Beta series, there will be an official announcement as well as an application form on this website.
5. What sizes will be available?
A correct fit is essential for our design to work adequately. We are currently conducting research to determine which standard sizes will provide the best match between our users and our design. At the same time, we are developing a parametric system to make our design fully adaptable to any hand size. In theory, it might be possible to make custom sized gloves for special requests.
Please note that our first beta series will be in one size only.
6. Will there be a women’s size?
Yes. And we plan to release a Beta version this year.
7. What will be the retail price?
Since there's still a lot of uncovered ground and both the design and the production method are still under development, it is too early to give a sound prediction on pricing at this point in time.
8. What kind of weapon impact is the ProGauntlet designed for?
Our current model is being designed for and tested against full impact (no holding back) from blunt steel European longswords as used in HEMA training and competitions.
9. Is the ProGauntlet suitable for other weapons besides longsword?
Even though we're focusing on longsword at the moment, our sleek and unobstructive design might work well for handling various weapon types. Testing the ProGauntlet's capabilities with other weapons is definitely on the menu.
10. Is the ProGauntlet safe for grappling and wrestling?
We are making sure that the ProGauntlet will match the standards of HEMA tournament regulations. The material we use for the outer shell is a lightweight, semi rigid plastic and the elements have been designed with rounded edges to limit the chances of getting stuck and causing cutting wounds. This greatly contributes to safety during grappling and wrestling situations.
11. Is the ProGauntlet suitable for other martial arts or sports?
We like to say: 'Once you can protect your hands against a steel sword, the rest is a walk in the park'.
We welcome martial artists and sportsmen and women from all backgrounds and disciplines to talk to us and see how the ProGauntlet can help improve their training experience.
12. Does it come in black?
Yes, Fabrice. Black and various colours still seem possible.
13. I backed the IndieGoGo campaign. When will I hear more about my perk?
As most perks are directly related to our development, we plan to release information throughout the year as we progress. The first item on the menu will be a wall of fame on this website to thank all of you who have trusted and supported us in the very early stages of our adventure. Rest assured, we haven’t forgotten about you!
